We have endeavoured to cover our most Frequently Asked Questions when taking our guided tours of Rome. If however you have a question that is not listed below, please feel free to contact us via email or our Contact Page.

What is the difference between a VIP Tour and a Standard Tour?
A VIP Tour is a tour where your booking is the only booking on the tour. This means that just you will be with the tour guide and so you have exclusive use of their services. This enables you to have a much more personal experience and for larger groups it actually works out cheaper than a Standard Tour. A Standard Tour means that your booking can be grouped with other bookings made with Rome Avenue Tours so you are with other customers of ours on the tour. We try to keep group sizes down to a minimum to ensure that our customers still receive a great tour experience.
Do you offer transport as part of the tour?
We can always arrange transport by special arrangement and this can be done via the booking system (or via the Contact Form). However, for certain tours transport to tour locations is already included in the price of the tour. Check out our booking system or Tours page for more information.
With your tours, do we get to skip the queues?
Yes you do! We have a special relationship with the ticketing authorities that mean that by booking with us, you are able to Skip the Long Queues. In peak season, these queues can be 2 to 5 hrs long depending on the attraction so this is an important advantage of booking with us...
Where do we meet for the tours?
The meeting points for the tours vary depending on the tour. On each tour page there is a Google Map pin-pointing exactly where you need to be. At this point, either Christophe or Tom will be waiting for you with a Rome Avenue sign in order to introduce you to the guide. If you have any problems and think you may be late - please phone us.
What happens if I'm late?
Please try your best to be on time. If you are having any problems, please call us on the number at the bottom of this page so that we can try to assist you. However, the tour will always start on time so if you are late then this is your risk. For certain tours, we MUST start punctually in order to gain access to the Vatican Museum or other galleries where we have booked an entrance time. You have been warned!
Should I bring photo ID with me to the tour?
Yes. Certain of our tour prices include discounts for those who are eligible. Photo ID with date of birth must be presented to the ticketing authorities for these discounts to be obtainable. Customers without such ID necessary to satisfy the ticketing authorities cannot receive the discount. As a side point, it is law in Italy to always carry identification document with you at all times.
Are the times listed the only possible start times?
This depends on the tour, but generally speaking if you need a special time please contact us and we shall see what we can do. Such irregular times may result in a different tour price than the one advertised however but we always endeavour to accommodate customers personal needs.
Can we take photos on the tour?
The tour guide will explain any special photographing rules during the tour, but generally...Yes.
Is there a dress code on any of the tours?
Yes there is. Italy is a Catholic country and many of the locations are places of worship or holy places that enforce a dress code. The general rule is to dress reverently (shoulders covered and majority of legs covered) and this applies to the men as well as the women. Tourists are frequently refused admittance to places such as St Peter's Basilica for inappropriate dress. Please be respectful but dinner jackets are not a requirement!
Will the weather affect the tours?
That depends on the tour. For tours that are primarily conducted indoors then obviously not. However for walking tours outside this is a factor and so you should bring attire according to the weather forecasts. For those visiting the Coliseum, if it rains (which actually isn't that often) then the Coliseum is prone to flooding and so the authorities can unilaterally decide to close the lower building. We obviously have no control over this. If this were to happen then we would endeavour to move your tour to a different day or to find some other solution.
What happens if I want to cancel my tour?
You are able to cancel your tour either through the booking system or by messaging us through the Contact Form. If you cancel before 7 days before the start of the tour then we will give you a full refund. If you cancel within 2-7 days of the tour time however you will be charged 50% of booking cost, and if you give us less than 2 days notice then you will not receive any refund.
